Orthodontics, smiling mouths
Braces are used to straighten teeth and to correct the alignment in the mouth. Several types of braces are available, including traditional metal braces, ceramic braces, and invisible braces. The length of time spent wearing braces depends on the severity of the condition and the desired outcome. The process usually takes from 6 months to 2 years; your unique case may be shorter or longer.

Benefits of Orthodontics

The following list includes some of the benefits you will experience as a result of orthodontic treatment:

  • Increase self-esteem by improving your appearance, and decrease the likelihood that you will develop gum disease and or lose teeth prematurely by relieving stress on gums and bones — an inevitable result when teeth do not align properly.
  • Eliminate possible speech problems caused by misaligned teeth.
  • Help reduce and treat jaw pain or TMJ.
  • Decrease the possibility of decay in crowded, overlapping teeth – places where food could be trapped.
  • Allow the jawbone to develop properly, possibly resulting in less of a need to extract adult teeth.
  • Help to correct jaw problems in adults with orthodontics and oral surgery.

Straight Wire Braces

Straight-wire braces straighten and align your teeth through a series of complex biomechanical movements. These braces usually consist of small brackets that are cemented directly to the teeth with a thin wire connecting the brackets. The wire exerts slow but deliberate forces on your teeth, safely moving them through the jawbone. Over the course of your treatment, thicker wires are used to continue moving the teeth, preventing them from drifting back to their earlier positions. With straight-wire braces, good oral hygiene is extremely important. Regular professional cleanings in combination with responsible at-home brushing will help to make your orthodontic experience a positive one — and successful, too!

Invisalign

Like straight-wire braces, Invisalign straighten and align your teeth through a series of complex biomechanical movements. Unlike traditional wire braces, Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable trays to properly position your teeth. With this cutting-edge technology, you can enjoy straighter teeth and a more beautiful smile.

The Invisalign trays are invisible so no one will know you have braces. The trays are also removable so you can eat and drink what you want and it makes flossing and brushing more manageable. Finally, since the trays are acrylic, there is no metal that will irritate your mouth, tongue, cheeks, or gums — meaning that the trays are comfortable to wear, too.

You will wear each set of trays for approximately 2 weeks. Short appointments will be scheduled to track your progress and deliver additional sets of trays. As you move from tray to tray, you will see your teeth move little by little until you have the smile of your dreams.
